Air Travel is an important subset of the Logistics business that has gained traction and momentum. Here, travel includes passenger as well as cargo. Where time is of the essence, Air travel is the preferred option.
Air travel over time, having become cost competitive, has also become a more viable and hence popular option along with Road & Rail. But the special nature of this travel makes it particularly susceptible to security hazards. Here, it entails not just pilferage but it can also mean additional stowaway cargo that can cause severe issues related to aircraft safety and ultimately, loss to human life.
The Issue
The thorough nature of this security is check is common knowledge to anybody who has ever flown in an aircraft. You are screened, your baggage is screened and both are sequestered after the screening is complete; passengers in the security lounge and the baggage post security is tagged, sealed and loaded onto the aircraft.
The Aircraft is an off-limits craft that has limited access to anybody, except for the crew and the screened passengers. Typically speaking it is a closed capsule where there is

Now having screened and cleared the passengers, what remains is the cargo, baggage and material. The passenger baggage is sealed and tagged going in and this comes out with the respective passenger in the same form, sealed and tagged. In the flight, drinks, liquor and food goes in and what comes out is garbage in the form of food waste, containers and the like.
Food and Liquor is expensive. It is carted upto aircraft in trolleys. Also food is susceptible to contamination, hence the trolley transporting it needs to be secured such that no other personnel apart from those authorized to do so are in a position to access them. Once the meals and drinks are counted, loaded onto the trolley, and the information recorded, it is secured and locked. It is next opened on the aircraft.
Passenger baggage has to undergo screening for non-permissible items inside an aircraft and to be declared clean and cleared for loading. It is then tagged, secured and sealed. This goes onto the loading bay and into the aircraft belly.
Customer hand baggage is screened along with the passenger at the security check post and is to be pronounced okay.
The fourth point of security tagging and sealing is for the dry waste collected from the aircraft post its landing. This waste has to be carried away from the aircraft and dumped into the assigned garbage zone. But while carrying it from within the aircraft to the zone the carry bag has to be sealed to ensure that there is no spillage inside the aircraft, on the tarmac or any other areas of the airport premises.
